Maharazu Tsiga, a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has been released after enduring 22 days in the hands of his abductors.
A reliable source confirmed on Friday night that Tsiga had regained his freedom and was receiving medical care at an undisclosed hospital for security reasons.
The retired NYSC chief was kidnapped on February 6, 2025, when a group of armed men invaded his residence in Tsiga village, located in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State.
During the attack, two individuals sustained injuries of varying severity, while one of the gunmen was mistakenly shot and killed by a fellow gang member.
So far, neither government officials nor security agencies, including the Katsina State Police Command, have made any public statements regarding his release.
Earlier, Chronicles Reporters had reported that the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N250 million before they would free the retired general.
Tsigaβs abduction occurred when a large number of armed men stormed his home. The attackers reportedly encircled the building and began breaking down doors. In an attempt to confront them, the general stepped outside, at which point he was taken.
Abdullahi Balarabe Dabai, a federal lawmaker representing Bakori/Danja Federal Constituency, confirmed the incident, explaining that the assailants overpowered the household before whisking Tsiga away.
