At least four people have been confirmed dead after terrorists carried out a midnight attack on a Tiv community in Idofin, located in Yagba East Local Government Area of Kogi State. The assault occurred in the early hours of Monday, December 1, 2025, plunging the quiet settlement into panic and forcing residents to flee into surrounding bushes.

Eyewitnesses told Chronicle Reporters that the attackers stormed the community around midnight and began shooting indiscriminately. The coordinated raid left several homes deserted as terrified residents scattered for safety under the cover of darkness. A community member, who requested anonymity, confirmed that four bodies were recovered shortly after the assailants withdrew. The corpses were later transported to the General Hospital in Isanlu.

The incident adds to growing fears over deteriorating security in Kogi State, where multiple attacks have been recorded in recent weeks. Earlier on Monday, tension flared once again along the Oshokoshoko–Obajana highway after terrorists launched another ambush on travellers along the increasingly volatile corridor.

A video obtained by Chronicle Reporters showed dozens of stranded commuters along the Oshokoshoko–Obajana highway, with long queues of stationary vehicles trapped between Kabba and Obajana. A distressed traveller filming the ordeal pleaded for urgent intervention, saying armed men had overrun the area.

“We have been here for more than three hours. Kidnappers are taking over the road… Soldiers and these bandits are exchanging fire presently,” he said, capturing the chaos around him.

Residents and regular users of the route say the highway has become a major hotspot for kidnappings and armed violence, with repeated attacks in recent days leaving travellers anxious and communities on edge.

Security agencies have yet to issue a formal statement on the latest killings, but the rising wave of deadly ambushes has renewed calls for urgent, sustained action to restore safety across vulnerable parts of Kogi State.
