Davido’s statement earlier today on NewsCentral shows how unserious and inconsistent he has become in politics, even though he only joined a fortnight ago.
It is unfortunate that he has no clear political ideology. He claims to be with the people, yet he openly supports Bola Tinubu’s ruinous APC, the same party his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, “local Michael Jackson” pretended to be fighting against in Osun State prior to the elections. You cannot be against APC in the morning and be dining with them in the evening while Nigerians continue to suffer from their destructive policies.
For the records, Omoyele Sowore and members of RevolutionNow planned #EndSARS and flagged it off on the 8th of October, 2020 at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. The movement did not start with any celebrity and does not belong to any celebrity.
On the Sunday that David Adeleke came to Abuja with Deji Adeyanju, they were both teargassed and water-sprayed at the protest ground. After that, they went to the office of the Inspector General of Police where Davido was allegedly threatened that he’d be made to give his side of the story of an alleged murder if he continued with the protest. That was why he quietly left Abuja and stopped speaking on #EndSARS.
As at the time he arrived Abuja, no member of RevolutionNow except Deji Adeyanju met with Davido. In fact, they flew into Abuja on the same flight. Sowore never met him and never sought to meet him. So there is no basis for Davido to lie about it.
Our position in RevolutionNow is clear. The Adeleke family is strangling the good people of Osun State and must be resisted. Osun cannot be treated as a private property to be looted while agreements are being made with the same APC that killed over 50 people in the last elections.
Their only interest is to protect power that is now concentrated in just the Adeleke family with Davido as Chairman, Board of Entertainment, Art and Culture, his cousin as Commissioner for Foreign Affairs, his older cousin as Chairman, Osun Board of Local Governments, his uncle’s two wives to resume as co-First Ladies, and their stakes in the Nigerian power sector.
Ours is a politics of principles and ideology. Not one bounded by interest and a transactional mode in both stakes and convenience. We are people driven, people oriented, people centred and people based. Not one for stomach, family, interest and agreement.
Our pact and stake is one with the people and not the kleptomaniacs, prebendalists and the establishment.
To this we say NO. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.
