Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to honour his commitment to protecting Nigerians, following renewed violence in Benue State.
In a statement shared on Monday, Atiku criticised what he described as a gap between presidential assurances and the reality on the ground, noting that fresh attacks occurred just days after the president pledged that such incidents would not happen again.
According to him, the killing of over a dozen people in Benue came less than 72 hours after Tinubu made remarks in Angwan Rukuba, Plateau State, aimed at reassuring citizens.
Atiku expressed concern that the situation reflects a troubling pattern, urging the president to move beyond statements and take concrete action to address the country’s security challenges.
He further highlighted reports of tension in parts of Nasarawa State, where residents have reportedly fled their homes over fears of impending attacks. He also referenced a recent incident in Kaduna State, underscoring the spread of insecurity across multiple regions.
The former vice president stressed that safeguarding lives and property remains the core responsibility of any government, adding that Nigerians expect urgent and practical steps from the leadership.
He concluded by offering condolences to families affected by the violence, while reiterating the need for decisive measures to curb the recurring attacks.
