The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Ibrahim Augustine, for allegedly stabbing his 21-year-old friend, Haggai Markus, to death following a disagreement over roasted meat in Mubi North Local Government Area of the state.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred at about 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at Mararaban Vimtim, where the two friends allegedly engaged in an argument over roasted meat taken from a butcher’s table.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Adamawa State Police Command spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the disagreement escalated into violence when Augustine allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed Markus in the chest.

“In the course of the misunderstanding, the suspect allegedly used a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest,” Nguroje said.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the incident was reported to the police at about 8:45 p.m. by the deceased’s father, identified as Markus Gabo.

Following the report, operatives attached to the Mubi North Division promptly visited the scene, where they reportedly discovered the lifeless body of the 21-year-old victim lying in a pool of blood.

Nguroje said the police recovered a sharp knife suspected to have been used in the attack, while the suspect was apprehended and taken into custody.

He added that the victim’s body was evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, where a medical doctor examined him and confirmed his death.

The police spokesperson further disclosed that the suspect, alongside the case diary, would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Umar Hassan, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased over the incident and assured them that justice would be served.

The commissioner also urged residents of the state to exercise restraint when resolving disagreements, warning against the use of violence in settling disputes.

Nguroje quoted the commissioner as urging residents to “always resolve disputes peacefully and report disagreements to the Police rather than resorting to violence.”
