The Executive Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Hon. Kasim Mohammed, has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, for executing developmental projects across the council, while appealing for additional government interventions to address other critical needs of residents.
Mohammed made the commendation during the commissioning of the Barr. Nyesom Wike Civic Centre and other completed projects executed by the FCT Administration in Gwagwalada, describing the interventions as significant contributions to infrastructure development and improved public service delivery.
The chairman said the projects demonstrated the minister’s commitment to extending development beyond the city centre to other parts of the FCT, adding that the facilities and infrastructure would contribute to improving residents’ living conditions and strengthening public infrastructure within the area council.
While expressing appreciation for the completed projects, Mohammed also used the occasion to remind the minister of requests and proposals he had previously submitted on behalf of the people of Gwagwalada.
He appealed to Wike to give further consideration to the outstanding requests, particularly in areas where additional government attention and investment are required to meet the developmental needs of the council.
The chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining a cordial working relationship with the FCT Administration, expressing optimism that continued cooperation would attract more projects and development opportunities to Gwagwalada.
In a separate development, Mohammed presented 16 vehicles to political stakeholders as a gesture of appreciation for their loyalty, solidarity and contributions to his political journey and emergence as chairman of the area council.
The beneficiaries comprised the 10 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward chairmen and six former All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) ward chairmen who, according to the chairman, supported and worked with him throughout different stages of his political career.
The statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Gwagwalada Area Council chairman, Muhammad Isah Hassan, on November 2, 2026, explained that the beneficiaries had contributed to Mohammed’s emergence as vice chairman in 2016 and subsequently supported his elections as executive chairman in 2022 and 2025.
The chairman described the vehicle presentation as a recognition of their longstanding commitment, loyalty and support, noting that their contributions had played a role in his political advancement and leadership over the years.
The gesture also highlighted his acknowledgement of the political relationships and alliances that supported his journey from vice chairman to executive chairman of the area council.
Mohammed also paid special tribute to the former Executive Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council and former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Zakari Angulu Dobi, for laying the foundation of the Gwagwalada Town Hall, which has now been named the Barr. Nyesom Wike Civic Centre.
The chairman acknowledged Dobi’s role in the history of the project, describing the foundation he laid as an important contribution that preceded the facility’s eventual completion and commissioning.
He further commended the principle of continuity in governance, noting the importance of building on projects initiated by previous administrations to ensure that public infrastructure is completed and made available for public use.
The recognition of Dobi’s contribution places the development of the civic centre within a broader history of successive administrations and their respective roles in the project’s journey from foundation to completion.
Meanwhile, Wike expressed appreciation to Mohammed for the decision to name the civic centre after him, describing the gesture as one he deeply valued.
According to the statement, the minister said the honour was particularly meaningful to him, his family and the associates who accompanied him to the commissioning ceremony.
Wike reportedly recalled an emotional moment when he arrived at the facility and discovered that his name had already been beautifully inscribed on the building without any prior instruction or personal request from him.
He said the gesture touched him because it reflected the chairman’s goodwill and personal decision to recognise his contributions to development in the FCT.
The minister subsequently extended his gratitude to Mohammed, stressing that the recognition would remain appreciated by him, his family and associates.
The commissioning of the civic centre and other completed projects, alongside the chairman’s appeal for further interventions, underscores the relationship between the Gwagwalada Area Council and the FCT Administration in the delivery of infrastructure and public services.
As the council continues to seek additional developmental projects, residents will be looking to both administrations to sustain the momentum of infrastructure delivery and ensure that future interventions address the needs of communities across Gwagwalada.
