Tension is escalating across rural communities in Gwagwalada Area Council as a disturbing wave of violent attacks—largely attributed to suspected Fulani herdsmen—continues to threaten the lives and heritage of the indigenous population. Reports gathered from residents point to an ongoing pattern of brutal assaults, land encroachments, and targeted killings in agrarian areas such as Paiko, Ibwa, and Dobi.
According to eyewitness accounts and community sources, local farmers have been slaughtered in their farmlands and sometimes in their homes, often without provocation. These incidents, described as acts of terror, are creating an atmosphere of fear and displacement among native dwellers who have called Gwagwalada home for generations.
“This is more than random violence,” said Sani Usman Zakariyya, also known as ManUtd CrownPrince, a concerned resident and outspoken community voice. “This is a deliberate attempt to marginalize the original inhabitants of Gwagwalada on their ancestral soil. We are being hunted, and our leaders are silent.”
Despite the increasing number of casualties and destruction, little has been done in terms of justice or deterrence. Residents claim that political compromises and the failure of local leadership to take a firm stand have left them exposed, voiceless, and powerless.
“There have been several killings across FCT lands, but the people have no platform to speak or defend themselves. Many of our leaders have mortgaged the safety of our communities for personal gain,” Zakariyya added in a public statement shared with Chronicles Reporters.

This growing crisis calls for immediate government attention. Zakariyya is calling on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike (CON, GSSRS), and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to initiate a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the recurring attacks. He further demands the arrest and prosecution of perpetrators, irrespective of their affiliations.
“The bloodshed must end. The safety and dignity of Gwagwalada’s indigenous people cannot continue to be sacrificed on the altar of political silence and indifference. Our people deserve protection, justice, and peace,” he concluded.
As these atrocities continue unabated, the soul of Gwagwalada hangs in the balance—awaiting either meaningful intervention or tragic erasure.
