Rimi College, previously St. John’s College, has ordered its staff residing in government-provided quarters to vacate within three weeks.
This eviction notice comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with economic challenges and rising inflation under the current administration, which has added pressure on teachers who reportedly haven’t received salaries under Governor Uba Sani’s leadership.
According to a document obtained by SaharaReporters on Friday, titled “Notice to Vacate Government Quarters for Renovation,” dated August 8, 2024, and signed by Principal Mohammad Danlami Ibrahim, staff members were informed they must find their own accommodation, as no alternative housing will be provided.
The letter reads in part: “I am directed to serve this letter as a formal notice for you to vacate the government quarter No:… allocated to you at Rimi College within three weeks from receipt of this notice.”
The document explains that the quarters are scheduled for renovation, and their continued occupation is delaying the project. It specifies: “Vacate the quarters on or before three weeks after receipt of this notice, remove all personal belongings, and return the keys to the school principal.”

The notice further warns that failure to comply may result in “legal action against you.” It adds that non-compliance could lead to the “forfeiture of any personal belongings left on the premises” and “deduction from your salary or benefits.”
Meanwhile, sources have accused Governor Sani of planning to allocate the vacated quarters and land to his political allies. “Uba Sani is trying to evict teachers while he remains largely absent as governor. He spends most of his time in Abuja,” shared one source.
The source added that infrastructure from the previous administration has deteriorated, with dirt accumulating in parts of Kaduna. “It’s like we don’t have a governor. Now, he’s neglecting teachers’ salaries and, despite inflation, wants to evict them to hand over the quarters to his political cronies,” the source continued.
