Concerned residents have been urged to demand accountability and immediate action following reports that some individuals were apprehended in connection with the alleged theft of electricity armoured cables, popularly known as NEPA wires, in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The call was made by Official Ogaza in a Facebook post drawing attention to the reported incident and urging relevant security agencies and electricity authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft.

Ogaza called on the FCT Police Command, Kwali Police Division, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), and Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) to intervene and ensure that the matter receives the necessary attention.

He stressed that electricity infrastructure is a public asset whose theft or vandalism can disrupt power supply, threaten public safety, and impose additional hardship on residents who depend on reliable electricity for their homes and businesses.

According to the appeal, the police should conduct a thorough investigation, establish the facts surrounding the incident, recover any property confirmed to have been stolen, and ensure that anyone found guilty is dealt with in accordance with the law.

The development has also raised concerns about the protection of electricity infrastructure in Kwali and the need for stronger collaboration between security agencies, electricity distribution authorities, and community members to prevent vandalism and the illegal removal of public utility installations.

However, Chronicles Reporters notes that the circumstances surrounding the reported apprehension, the identities of the individuals involved, and the status of any police investigation have not been independently verified as of the time of this report. The allegations should therefore not be treated as proof of guilt, as every suspect is entitled to the presumption of innocence and due process under the law.

Chronicles Reporters calls on the relevant authorities to clarify the circumstances of the incident, confirm whether a formal investigation has commenced, and provide the public with verified information on any action taken.

Protecting public infrastructure remains a shared responsibility. Residents deserve reliable electricity, effective security, and transparency from the institutions responsible for safeguarding public assets.

Chronicles Reporters will continue to monitor developments and report verified updates as further information becomes available.
