The African Action Congress (AAC) has inaugurated the Sowore-Magashi 2027 Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), announcing a nationwide mobilisation strategy aimed at building a political structure to support the presidential ambition of its candidate, Omoyele Sowore, and his running mate, Magashi, ahead of the 2027 general election.
The party described the inauguration as a major step in its preparations for the election, saying the campaign council would coordinate political activities, grassroots mobilisation and public engagement across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
In a statement signed by the AAC Acting National Chairman, Samuel Ajeigbe, and National Secretary, Oshlokhue Phillip Ikpeminoghena, the party said the council comprises political strategists, organisers, policy advocates, media professionals, digital campaigners, election specialists, legal practitioners, finance personnel and grassroots mobilisers.
According to the statement, the council will be led by Abdullahi Usman as Director-General, with deputy directors responsible for Strategy and Political Affairs, as well as Diaspora and Resource Mobilisation. Juwon Sanyaolu was also appointed Secretary of the Campaign Council.
The AAC announced 10 national directorates to oversee the campaign’s principal areas of operation, including Strategy and Policy; Grassroots Mobilisation; Labour and Civil Society Engagement; Publicity and Communications; Digital Media; Data and Technology; Election Operations; Finance; Legal and Compliance; and Administration and Field Operations.
The party said the directorates would provide the organisational framework for coordinating campaign activities, mobilising supporters and expanding the reach of the Sowore-Magashi ticket across the country.
It added that the campaign structure would extend beyond the national level to state, local government area, ward and polling-unit coordinators.
According to the AAC, the grassroots network would involve volunteers, canvassers, polling agents and other supporters as the party seeks to establish a nationwide political presence before the 2027 presidential election.
The party also highlighted the role of the SOWORENOW application, which it said had already contributed significantly to coordinating supporters and campaign activities.
“The Presidential Campaign Council is not a replacement for this digital mobilisation infrastructure; rather, it is designed to upscale, deepen and expand it,” the statement said.
The AAC explained that its campaign strategy would combine digital technology with physical grassroots organisation, political coordination and community-level mobilisation to reach Nigerians in different parts of the country.
The party said the approach was intended to strengthen its organisational capacity while ensuring that campaign activities were coordinated from the national leadership down to individual polling units.
Framing the 2027 presidential election as a contest over the country’s political direction, the AAC said its objective went beyond replacing the incumbent president.
“This AAC is clear about the historic task before us. The 2027 election is not merely about changing the occupant of Aso Rock; it is about changing the political direction of Nigeria,” the party said.
The party accused what it described as the “old political order” of continuing to fail Nigerians, arguing that the country needed a different political direction.
It vowed to intensify its mobilisation efforts across major cities, rural communities, state capitals and polling units as it works to promote the Sowore-Magashi ticket.
“The inauguration of the Campaign Council therefore signals the beginning of an intensified nationwide mobilisation,” the AAC said.
The party called on Nigerians who believe the country could be governed differently to participate in its campaign, stressing that the responsibility for political change should not be left to politicians alone.
“The task of taking back our country cannot be left to politicians alone; it requires the active participation of the People,” the statement added.
The inauguration marks the AAC’s latest organisational step towards the 2027 presidential election, with the party seeking to combine a centralised campaign structure, digital mobilisation and grassroots coordination to strengthen its reach across Nigeria.
