Hon. Danladi Bomboyi Chiya has marked his birthday by calling on the people of Abuja South to reflect on the journey so far and the work ahead towards building a better, inclusive and people-centred society.
Speaking with Chronicles Reporters on the occasion of his birthday, Chiya described the new year added to his life as an opportunity to renew his commitment to public service, listen more closely to the ideas of the people and continue contributing to the development of Abuja South.
According to him, birthdays should not only be occasions for personal celebration but also moments for reflection, renewed commitment and consideration of how individuals can contribute meaningfully to the progress of their communities.
“Today, I see another year added to my life as an opportunity to serve the people, listen to the ideas of our people and continue to serve as I have been doing,” Chiya said.
He emphasised the importance of listening to citizens and recognising that sustainable development requires the participation of the people whose lives are directly affected by government policies, political decisions and community initiatives.
The Abuja South political figure also expressed appreciation to his critics, acknowledging their role in challenging leaders and drawing attention to areas that require improvement.
“To all my critics, I thank you because you have made me sit up and do more,” he stated.
Chiya noted that governance is a continuing process, adding that no administration or political leader can satisfy every individual during their tenure. However, he maintained that constructive criticism remains an important part of democratic engagement because it can help leaders identify shortcomings, reconsider their approaches and respond more effectively to the needs of the people.
He stressed that criticism should be seen as an opportunity for reflection and improvement rather than merely a source of political disagreement, particularly when the ultimate objective is to achieve meaningful development.
Chiya further called on the people of Abuja South to use the occasion as an opportunity to consider how they could contribute to the DC movement and the broader effort to transform the area’s social, political and community landscape.
He urged residents, political stakeholders, youths and other community members to move beyond political divisions and actively contribute ideas capable of producing positive change.
According to him, the future of Abuja South should be shaped by collective participation, innovative thinking and a shared commitment to improving the conditions of the people.
He maintained that building a better society requires more than the efforts of political officeholders alone, stressing that citizens also have a responsibility to participate in discussions, offer practical solutions and support initiatives that advance the common good.
The birthday message therefore served not only as a personal reflection on another year of life but also as a call for renewed civic participation and a collective examination of the direction Abuja South should take in the years ahead.
As the people of Abuja South continue to navigate their social and political aspirations, Chiya urged them to embrace ideas and actions that place the interests of the people at the centre of development, expressing the need for a political environment where public service, accountability and community progress remain priorities.
For Chiya, the journey ahead presents an opportunity to learn from past experiences, listen to diverse opinions and strengthen the collective determination to build an Abuja South that better reflects the aspirations of its people.
