The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to detained Nigerian blogger and activist, Justice Mark Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack.
The development comes days after dramatic courtroom proceedings led to the withdrawal of an earlier bail application following disagreements among members of the defence team over courtroom representation.
Justice Crack, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), had drawn public attention amid allegations of torture and concerns raised by activists and supporters over his continued detention.
The fresh bail application was subsequently refiled after the earlier application was struck out at the Federal High Court presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik.
Human rights activists and supporters who have been following the case welcomed the court’s decision, describing it as an important step in ensuring due process and protecting constitutional rights.
