Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has disclosed that security agencies received advance intelligence about the terrorist attack on a military base in Benisheikh three days before it occurred.
The assault, which targeted the 15 Task Force Brigade, resulted in the death of Brigade Commander, O.O. Braimoh, alongside several soldiers and civilians.
Speaking during a condolence visit to the affected community, Zulum described the incident as deeply troubling, especially given that prior warnings had reportedly been available.
āThis is one of the most surprising attacks I have witnessed in recent times. Credible intelligence had been available for about three days,ā the governor said, calling for a reassessment of the countryās security architecture.
The revelation has raised concerns about possible lapses in response and coordination among security agencies, as local authorities also confirmed that intelligence reports were received ahead of the attack.
Benisheikh, a key location along the MaiduguriāDamaturu highway, remains strategically important in the fight against insurgents linked to Boko Haram. While security has improved in recent years, sporadic attacks continue to underscore ongoing threats in the region.
Zulum urged stronger intelligence sharing, increased vigilance, and more proactive measures to protect both military formations and civilian communities.
He also reaffirmed his administrationās support for the Armed Forces and local security groups, while paying tribute to the fallen personnel for their sacrifice in service to the nation.
