A Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned for ruling on an application by activist Omoyele Sowore seeking to strike out the cybercrime charges filed against him.
The case, linked to remarks he made about former Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, was paused after his legal team challenged its validity and urged the court to dismiss it.
Sowore claimed the charges, initiated in January 2025, were used to seize his passport and restrict his movement. He described the prosecution as politically driven and criticised the handling of the case, alleging irregularities including the absence of prosecution witnesses.
He also raised concerns over courtroom proceedings, referencing an earlier incident where his lawyer was allegedly asked to kneel by a judge during a separate hearing.
The matter is before the Federal High Court, Abuja, where the judge’s pending ruling is expected to determine whether the case will proceed or be struck out.
Authorities are yet to respond to the latest claims made by the activist.
