The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has advised the Chairman-elect of Gwagwalada Area Council, Kasim Mohammed Ikwa, to immediately compile a list of urgent projects needed by residents ahead of his inauguration.
Wike gave the advice while addressing stakeholders, stressing that governance must begin with identifying and prioritising the most pressing needs of the people.
According to the minister, the incoming council leadership should not wait until after the swearing-in ceremony to begin planning development initiatives. Instead, he urged the chairman-elect to engage with communities and identify projects that would directly improve the living conditions of residents.
“Before your inauguration, get a list of projects urgently needed by the people among your requests to start with,” Wike said.
The FCT Minister emphasised that effective leadership requires early preparation and a clear understanding of the priorities of the people, particularly in growing area councils where infrastructure, social services, and economic opportunities remain critical concerns.
He noted that early planning would enable the council administration to hit the ground running immediately after inauguration, ensuring that development efforts are focused on projects that have the most direct impact on the lives of residents.
Wike also reiterated the commitment of the FCT Administration to support area councils that demonstrate seriousness in addressing the needs of their communities.
Residents and political stakeholders in Gwagwalada have expressed hope that the incoming administration will focus on key areas such as infrastructure development, youth empowerment, education, and improved social services.
The advice from the FCT Minister comes as preparations continue for the swearing-in of newly elected area council chairmen across the Federal Capital Territory.
