As preparations gradually begin for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, youth participation has once again taken centre stage following a strong appreciation message and call to action by Hon. Shagi S. Jonah, who has urged young people across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to remain actively involved in the nation’s democratic process.
In a statement addressed to youths across the FCT, Hon. Shagi commended their growing influence in shaping Nigeria’s socio-political landscape, describing young people as the driving force behind progressive change, civic consciousness, and democratic accountability.
According to him, recent years have witnessed a remarkable rise in youth engagement across political discourse, social justice advocacy, and community-based initiatives. He noted that Nigerian youths have consistently demonstrated courage in challenging the status quo, amplifying critical national issues, and inspiring civic participation at the grassroots level.
“Your passion, creativity, and activism are vital to the progress of our communities and our democracy,” Shagi stated, describing youth involvement as a “beacon of hope for our collective future.”
Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Hon. Shagi emphasized that the polls represent more than a routine leadership transition. He stressed that the elections provide a platform for young Nigerians to influence policies around climate action, education reform, healthcare access, economic justice, and civil rights.
He further urged youths to convert their enthusiasm into concrete political action, noting that sustained engagement in the electoral process remains critical to ensuring effective governance and responsive leadership.
In his concluding remarks, Hon. Shagi called on young people across the FCT to rally behind the City Boy Movement, aligning with what he described as the positive developmental vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the continuity of his Renewed Hope agenda beyond 2027.
“The future is in your hands,” he said, adding that youth participation will play a decisive role in strengthening democracy and delivering governance that works for all Nigerians.
