A legal practitioner and Branch Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), N.D. Abdulsalam, has raised the alarm over alleged threats to his life, harassment and intimidation following a formal protest letter in which he accused Lieutenant Colonel Nurudeen Yusuf, the Aide-De-Camp (ADC) to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Elemona of Ilemona, of abuse of power, land grabbing and misuse of state institutions.

Abdulsalam, who is the Founding Partner of Lawgem LP, made the allegations in an official statement dated November 3, 2026, in Abuja, claiming that he had been subjected to persistent harassment and threats after raising concerns about Yusuf’s alleged activities.

According to him, he had received several suspicious telephone calls from individuals attempting to lure him to undisclosed locations under the guise of arranging legal consultations.

He alleged that the situation escalated on Tuesday, November 3, when he received a phone call at approximately 11:55 a.m. from a telephone number, 07060694084.

Abdulsalam said the caller identified himself as an officer of the Kwara State Police Headquarters and claimed to be acting on the directives of the state’s Commissioner of Police.

He stated that the caller informed him that a team of police officers had arrived in Abuja and was stationed at the Gwagwalada Police Division for what was described as investigative activities.

The caller allegedly instructed him to report to the police division immediately, repeatedly insisting that he should come without delay.

The NBA chairman further claimed that information available to him indicated that approximately 10 police officers had been mobilised from Kwara State to Abuja to effect his arrest, with instructions reportedly issued to the Commissioner of Police in the Federal Capital Territory to assist in his apprehension.

He said he informed the officers that if the Kwara State Commissioner of Police genuinely required his presence, a formal invitation should be served on him rather than deploying security personnel across state boundaries.

Abdulsalam maintained that he had neither fled nor gone into hiding and was willing to respond to any lawful invitation from the police.

He, however, questioned the alleged deployment of police personnel from Kwara State to Abuja, arguing that such an action amounted to the diversion of public resources and security personnel to resolve what he described as a private dispute involving Yusuf.

He also linked the alleged police action to previous incidents in Kwara State, which he claimed demonstrated the use of state institutions to pursue matters connected to the Elemona of Ilemona.

The lawyer specifically mentioned the detention of a local resident, identified as Mr. Suwara Agindingbadi, whom he alleged remained in custody over fabricated charges.

He also cited an alleged assault on some youths from Offa over land disputes, claiming that those responsible had not been brought to justice.

Among the individuals he identified as victims of the alleged assault were Kamal Lawal and Taye Lateef.

Abdulsalam further alleged that the victims had not received adequate judicial intervention, claiming that a judge had openly advised them during court proceedings to go and beg the Elemona.

The legal practitioner described the alleged developments as evidence supporting his earlier concerns that government institutions and security agencies were being deployed to settle private disputes.

He insisted that his position as a legal practitioner and NBA branch chairman would not deter him from speaking out against what he described as the abuse of executive authority and intimidation through security agencies.

“As a legal practitioner and a Branch Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), I will not be cowed by gunboat tactics or the unconstitutional misuse of executive power,” he stated.

He added that those occupying positions of authority should remember that power was temporary, insisting that he remained committed to speaking truth to power and demanding justice.

The allegations raise concerns about the reported involvement of police personnel in disputes involving public officials and traditional institutions, particularly the alleged movement of officers across state boundaries to handle an investigation in Abuja.

However, the claims contained in Abdulsalam’s statement, including the alleged mobilisation of police officers, the reported directives to the FCT Commissioner of Police and the accusations against Yusuf, had not been independently verified as of the time of filing this report.

There was also no response from Lieutenant Colonel Nurudeen Yusuf or the Kwara State Police Command to the allegations contained in the statement at the time of publication.
