Fresh concerns have emerged within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gwagwalada Area Council following a strongly worded public statement by a local resident, Usman Abdullahi Babalado, who alleged that the party structure in the council has “already been sold,” leaving loyal members stranded ahead of the next political cycle.
In a Facebook post that has since generated conversations across political platforms in the FCT, Babalado questioned the state of internal democracy in the party, citing what he described as decades-long control of APC leadership positions by a select few.
According to him:
1. “Your state chairman for 20 years is who?”
2. “Your LG party chairman for 13 years is who?”
3. “Your LG party secretary for 13 years is who?”
4. “Your woman leader for 13 years is who?”
5. “Your Gwagwalada Area Council APC candidate is who?”
Babalado alleged that several individuals holding key positions have moved away from the grassroots and no longer represent the interests of local party members. He claimed that some have relocated from Gwagwalada communities such as Dagiri to Abuja city in pursuit of political ambitions in other states.
“Some of them have gone to their various states and become speakers and dictating to us here for who becomes our councillorship candidate,” he wrote, adding that others are positioning themselves for governorship races in neighbouring states like Nasarawa.
He further alleged that ordinary members have no influence in party primaries, claiming that “you have nobody to help you to give you ticket in an ordinary primaries,” and that even the current candidate was allegedly handed a form “free” by national party leadership.
Babalado also suggested that several APC leaders within the council are embroiled in various legal or ethical challenges. “Some are even wanted by EFCC, ICPC or Code of Conduct Tribunal… others are afraid because they have been given ordinary appointments and don’t want to lose it,” he claimed, adding that the party currently has “no single chairmanship candidate in any Area Council.”
He urged APC supporters not to “sink” with the existing leadership, calling for firmness and self-rescue. He also referenced political conditions in neighbouring Kwali and Kuje, stating: “Na only DC dey even save you in Kwali. Even Kuchi Nago dey cry.”
As of the time of filing this report, APC officials in Gwagwalada have not responded to the claims.
