The Lagos State Government, through its Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO), has sealed a Chicken Republic branch in Lekki over alleged improper waste disposal and unhygienic practices, which reportedly contravene the state’s environmental laws.
The fast-food outlet, situated at No. 23 Agungi Ajiran Road, was shut down after residents lodged complaints about the restaurant’s unsanitary operations.
According to the government, findings showed that the management had been channeling wastewater directly onto the road, causing damage to public infrastructure and worsening environmental pollution.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, confirmed the closure on Thursday in a statement issued to journalists.
Wahab condemned the outlet’s conduct, describing it as a blatant breach of environmental regulations and warning that such practices would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
He said, “The Lagos State Government has sealed Chicken Republic at No. 23 Agungi Ajiran Road, Lekki, Lagos, for deliberately discharging wastewater onto the road, thereby damaging public infrastructure, constituting nuisance, polluting the environment, and endangering human health.”
The Commissioner reiterated that adherence to environmental standards is crucial to the government’s mission of fostering a cleaner, safer, and sustainable living environment for all residents of Lagos State.
