The Bauchi State chapter of the Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement has strongly condemned what it called the “unlawful removal” and “physical attack” on Hon. Usman Lukshi, Councillor representing Lukshi Ward in Dass Local Government Area.
In a statement signed by the State Coordinator, Nazif Bashi, the group described the incident as “a direct assault on democracy” and urged the authorities to take immediate and decisive action.
According to the movement, on August 12, 2025, a letter—purportedly signed on behalf of the Executive Chairman of Dass LGA—announced the removal of Hon. Lukshi from his position as Supervisory Councillor for Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene.
Shockingly, less than a day later, on August 13, 2025, the councillor was allegedly attacked inside the council chamber during an official session, reportedly for speaking his mind on the matter.
The TIB Movement held several parties accountable: the attackers for the assault, the council leadership for “failing to safeguard an elected representative,” the security agencies for “neglecting to prevent or respond adequately,” and any political actors who may have “instigated or encouraged” the violence.
The organisation demanded the “swift arrest and prosecution of all perpetrators, a public explanation of the legal grounds and process used for Hon. Lukshi’s removal, and firm security measures for all elected officials in Dass LGA.”
The group stressed that democracy is undermined when intimidation replaces constructive debate, and elected officials are silenced through violence.
“We refuse to stand by while democracy is trampled in Dass Local Government,” the statement declared. “Justice must be served.”
