African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, is set to return to Nigeria from the United States as the party moves to intensify its campaign activities ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The AAC announced this in a statement dated September 27, 2026, saying Sowore’s time in the United States included meetings with Nigerians in the diaspora, supporters, activists and other stakeholders.
According to the party, the engagements focused on the state of Nigeria and its proposed “revolutionary agenda” ahead of the 2027 election.
Sowore also participated in a solidarity march for Palestine in New York and renewed his call for Nigerians living abroad to be allowed to vote in Nigerian elections.
The AAC said Sowore had pledged to introduce diaspora voting under an administration led by the party, “immediately he is sworn in as Nigeria’s President in 2027.”
The party said Sowore is expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos before travelling to Abuja.
His return is expected to mark a new phase of the AAC’s 2027 presidential campaign, with the party announcing plans for Sowore to embark on engagements across the country.
The campaign is expected to take the AAC presidential candidate to communities and groups including workers, students, young people, women, farmers, traders and professionals.
The party said the nationwide campaign would challenge what it described as the “old political order” and promote what it called a “revolutionary new order” based on equal rights, justice, peace, progress, security and economic prosperity.
The AAC said Sowore was returning to Nigeria “determined to continue the struggle, continue the campaign, and take the message of revolutionary change directly to the Nigerian people.”
Sowore had left Nigeria earlier in September for a tour of the United States and Canada. The tour included engagements with Nigerians in the diaspora and supporters ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The AAC had maintained that Sowore’s absence from the country would not halt its political activities, with the party continuing its campaign engagements in Nigeria while he met supporters abroad.
With his return, the party is expected to intensify its mobilisation efforts and expand its direct engagement with voters as political activities build towards the 2027 presidential election.
The AAC’s campaign is centred on its call for what it describes as a fundamental change in Nigeria’s political system, with Sowore presenting the party’s agenda as an alternative to the existing political order.
