Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has travelled to the United Kingdom for a vacation and medical checkup, barely weeks after securing re-election in the state.
Adeleke departed Nigeria through the Lagos airport on Sunday for the European trip, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
The governor is expected to use the period to take a break from official activities and undergo medical examinations as he prepares for another term in office following his victory in the August 15 governorship election.
The statement said the United Kingdom is the first destination on the governor’s European trip, with other destinations expected to be announced later.
Explaining the reason for his departure, Adeleke said he was taking time off to regain energy and prepare himself for the responsibilities ahead.
“I am taking a short break to refresh and get further prepared to serve the good people of Osun State,” the governor said while departing through the Lagos airport.
The trip comes shortly after Adeleke emerged victorious in the governorship election, securing another term to continue leading Osun State.
Although the governor will be outside the country during the vacation, his administration is expected to continue functioning through the relevant government institutions and officials.
The governor’s spokesperson did not disclose the duration of Adeleke’s stay in the United Kingdom or indicate when he is expected to return to Nigeria.
The statement also did not provide specific details about the medical examinations the governor is scheduled to undergo, including the nature of the checkup or the medical facility where it would take place.
It further did not disclose the other European destinations Adeleke intends to visit during the trip.
The governor’s decision to combine his vacation with medical examinations comes as he prepares for the next phase of his administration following his re-election.
Adeleke had previously remained active in state affairs after the election, but his latest trip is intended to provide an opportunity for him to take a break before returning to the task of governing the state.
His administration is expected to continue its programmes and policies as preparations begin for the governor’s second term.
