Olukanyinsola Odebode, 30, a Nigerian man, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison in Wales after being convicted of raping one woman and sexually assaulting another while he was on bail.

Odebode was convicted at Swansea Crown Court of one count of rape and two counts of assault by penetration following a trial.

The offences took place between June 2024 and September 2025 and involved two women in different police areas in Wales.

The court heard that Odebode first sexually assaulted and raped a woman in the Gwent Police area. He was subsequently arrested and released on bail.

While on bail, he sexually assaulted another woman in the Dyfed-Powys Police area.

The prosecution later brought the cases before Swansea Crown Court, where jurors heard evidence concerning the two victims and Odebode’s conduct.

Prosecutor Mark Wyeth KC told the court that Odebode was a danger to women and that his actions had caused life-changing consequences for his victims.

The prosecution also presented a Probation Service report which stated that Odebode showed little understanding of his offending and rejected the jury’s findings.

The report concluded that he posed a high risk of causing serious harm, with the risk linked to what it described as attitudes of entitlement.

The case took another disturbing turn when the court heard that seven other women had reported concerns about Odebode’s sexual behaviour to police since 2019.

Those reports included allegations of rape, indecent exposure, sexual assault and stalking. However, the reports did not result in convictions, and the allegations should not be treated as proven offences.

One of the victims described Odebode as “very predatory”, while the prosecution said he had humiliated and degraded his victims.

The court also heard victim impact statements detailing the serious and lasting effect of the offences on the two women.

Judge Huw Rees said Odebode’s behaviour had a profound effect on the victims and raised concerns about his apparent lack of insight into his offending.

The judge ruled that an extended sentence was necessary because Odebode continued to pose a serious risk to the public.

Odebode was sentenced to nine years in custody followed by three years on licence, making a total extended sentence of 12 years.

He must serve two-thirds of the custodial term before he can apply for release. Any decision on whether he is safe to be released will be made by the Parole Board.

Odebode will also remain on the sex offenders’ register for life.

The court heard that he had no previous convictions before the offences that resulted in his conviction and imprisonment.

The Nigerian national is now serving his sentence in Wales, United Kingdom, following his conviction at Swansea Crown Court.

The case has raised serious questions about the risk posed by offenders who commit further offences while on bail, although the court’s decision was based on the convictions before it and not on the seven previous reports that did not result in convictions.
