The Supervisory Councillor for Works, Land and Survey in Gwagwalada Area Council, Arch. Mohammad Suleiman Zuba, has ordered the immediate stoppage of earth-filling activities at the ongoing Milano Road construction project after observing that filling was being carried out before the construction of the drainage system.

Arch. Zuba gave the directive during an inspection visit to the project site, where he expressed concern over the sequence of the construction activities and stressed the need for the contractor to follow proper engineering procedures.

The Supervisory Councillor directed the contractor to halt further earth filling and ensure that the drainage channels are properly constructed before the filling process resumes.

He explained that drainage is a critical component of any road construction project, noting that properly designed and constructed drainage channels are necessary to protect roads from erosion, flooding and water-related damage.

According to him, constructing the drainage system first would provide the necessary protection and support for the road and help prevent premature deterioration after completion.

The intervention by Arch. Zuba underscores the Gwagwalada Area Council administration’s emphasis on quality and adherence to approved engineering standards in the execution of public projects.

He stressed that contractors handling projects for the council must demonstrate professionalism and strictly comply with approved specifications and best engineering practices, rather than prioritising speed of execution over quality.

Arch. Zuba also reaffirmed the council’s commitment to closely monitoring ongoing projects to ensure that public infrastructure is delivered to the required standard and that taxpayers receive value for their money.

He assured residents that the administration would continue to inspect projects at different stages of construction and take necessary corrective measures whenever activities are found to be capable of compromising the quality or durability of the projects.

The Milano Road inspection therefore ended with a clear directive to the contractor to prioritise the construction of the drainage system before proceeding with further earth-filling activities.

The move highlights the council’s stated commitment to delivering durable infrastructure while ensuring that public projects are executed responsibly and in accordance with established engineering standards.
