The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has launched a blistering attack on Governor Ademola Adeleke, accusing him of resorting to what it described as “dangerous propaganda, blackmail and inflammatory rhetoric” against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a desperate bid to retain power ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Tuesday, the Director-General of the APC Governorship Campaign Council, Hon. Oluwole Oke, condemned remarks allegedly made by Adeleke during a campaign event, claiming the governor suggested Osun State could witness a repeat of the political violence of 1983 if he loses the election.
The council described the alleged comments as reckless, provocative and unbecoming of a sitting governor, insisting that they were aimed at creating fear among voters and discrediting the President.
The APC also faulted Adeleke’s allegation that President Tinubu was withholding federal allocations meant for Osun’s 30 local government areas, describing the claim as false, misleading and completely without evidence.
According to the council, the statutory allocations due to the legally recognised local government administrations in the state are being released as required by law, arguing that the governor’s accusation was merely an attempt to tarnish the President’s democratic credentials and shift public attention from what it called the failures of his administration.
The party said the governor’s latest outburst reflected panic over what it believes is an inevitable electoral defeat, accusing him of embarking on a campaign of falsehood and political blackmail after losing the confidence of the people.
The APC further alleged that since Adeleke assumed office in 2022, more than 30 APC members and supporters had been killed by political thugs allegedly linked to his administration, with at least 10 of the deaths said to have occurred in recent months.
It also accused the governor of releasing convicted criminals who allegedly returned to violent political activities and claimed that several individuals wanted by security agencies were being protected by the state government.
Beyond security allegations, the campaign council demanded that Adeleke account for several public funds allegedly received under his administration.
It specifically called on the governor to explain the utilisation of a ₦2 billion Federal Government grant reportedly released in 2023 for the procurement of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, the alleged spending of ₦17 billion in ecological funds received in 2024 and 2025, as well as what it described as over ₦1 trillion in revenue that accrued to Osun State during his tenure.
The council maintained that every public fund must be fully accounted for in accordance with the law, insisting that the electorate deserves transparency and responsible governance.
Expressing confidence ahead of the governorship election, the APC declared that the people of Osun had resolved to vote for its candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, whom it described as the symbol of accountable, transparent and people-centred leadership.
The allegations by the APC had not been publicly responded to by Governor Adeleke or the Osun State Government as of the time of filing this report.
