The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has demanded the immediate removal of the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, over allegations linking him to the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), an agency the Presidency reportedly insists does not exist.

The opposition party, in a statement issued on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, described the allegations as a major test of accountability and transparency within the Tinubu administration, calling for an independent investigation into the matter.

According to the NDC, claims made by Prince Mathew Adeniyi Adeyemi, who identifies himself as the Director-General of the PFIPC, raise troubling questions about how an agency allegedly lacking official recognition could secure budgetary allocations and operate multiple accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The party said Adeyemi alleged that the PFIPC received funding in the 2026 national budget and opened a domiciliary account, a pound sterling account and a Treasury Single Account with the apex bank.

“The NDC finds it deeply troubling that an agency the Presidency claims does not exist could open multiple high-level financial accounts at the Central Bank of Nigeria. The Nigerian people deserve clear and immediate answers on how such approvals were granted,” the statement said.

The opposition party further questioned the role of the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and other government institutions in the alleged transactions, insisting that the Presidency must provide a comprehensive explanation.

It also expressed concern over claims that the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation approved 314 staff positions for the disputed agency, describing such an action as impossible without the knowledge of key government officials.

The NDC additionally referenced allegations by Adeyemi that he secured his appointment after paying N600 million, with N400 million allegedly paid through intermediaries while N200 million remained outstanding.

The party also cited claims that Gbajabiamila allegedly demanded 48 per cent of the agency’s proposed take-off grant, valued at more than N27 billion, an allegation that reportedly triggered a breakdown in relations between both parties.

Describing the development as deeply disturbing, the NDC argued that the allegations suggest a broader pattern of corruption and the alleged monetisation of public appointments.

“These are not mere accusations; they point to a disturbing pattern of institutionalised corruption and the alleged sale of public offices to the highest bidders. Such claims must be thoroughly investigated in the interest of justice and public confidence,” the party stated.

The opposition group further highlighted the death of Babatunde Tanimola, said to have served as an intermediary between Adeyemi and the Chief of Staff, who reportedly died in a fire incident at a hotel in Utako, Abuja, in October 2025.

It also referred to Adeyemi’s claims that he had survived multiple assassination attempts and recently alleged that forces within government circles were plotting against him.

Consequently, the NDC called for Gbajabiamila’s immediate removal from office to ensure what it described as a fair, transparent and independent investigation.

The party urged President Bola Tinubu to establish an independent panel to investigate all allegations surrounding the PFIPC, including its alleged budgetary allocations, financial activities, staff approvals and operational structure.

It also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission and the Nigeria Police Force to launch immediate investigations into the matter.

According to the NDC, restoring public confidence in government institutions requires that anyone found culpable, regardless of status or political influence, be held accountable under the law.

Neither the Presidency nor Femi Gbajabiamila had issued an official response to the allegations as of the time this report was filed.
