The administration of Gwagwalada Area Council Chairman, Hon. Kasim Mohammed, has taken a major step toward fulfilling one of its key campaign promises as the Gwagwalada Scholarship Committee formally briefed the council chairman on progress made since the committee was inaugurated.
During a meeting held on Thursday, the committee informed the chairman that extensive work had already been carried out across the area council to identify qualified students who would benefit from the proposed scholarship programme.
Chairman of the Scholarship Committee, Mr. Musa Mamman, disclosed that committee members embarked on visits to secondary schools across the various communities within Gwagwalada Area Council as part of efforts to ensure that the selection process reflects fairness, inclusiveness and merit.
According to him, the exercise was carefully conducted to identify deserving candidates who meet the requirements for the scholarship initiative, with the objective of ensuring that talented students from different parts of the council are given an opportunity to pursue higher education without financial barriers.
The committee’s report marks a significant milestone in what is expected to become one of the most ambitious educational support programmes introduced by the current administration.
Responding to the briefing, Hon. Kasim Mohammed commended members of the committee for their dedication, commitment and professionalism in carrying out the assignment. He assured them that their efforts would yield meaningful results and reaffirmed his administration’s determination to invest in the educational advancement and future development of young people across Gwagwalada.
The chairman emphasized that education remains a central pillar of his administration’s agenda, describing human capital development as critical to the long-term growth and prosperity of the area council.
He further revealed that successful candidates selected through the screening process would, by the grace of God, be awarded scholarships within his first 100 days in office.
The scholarship programme is expected to provide opportunities for beneficiaries to pursue undergraduate studies in several highly sought-after professional disciplines, including Medicine, Nursing, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering and Law.
The initiative is designed not only to support students academically but also to build a new generation of professionals capable of contributing to community development, technological advancement and national growth.
Observers have described the programme as a strategic investment in the future of Gwagwalada, particularly at a time when many families continue to struggle with the rising cost of tertiary education.
With the committee’s field assessment now completed and the selection process advancing steadily, expectations are growing among residents that the scholarship scheme will become one of the flagship achievements of the Kasim Mohammed administration during its early days in office.
The council chairman expressed confidence that the beneficiaries of the programme would eventually emerge as doctors, nurses, engineers, lawyers and technology experts who would make meaningful contributions to the development of Gwagwalada Area Council, the Federal Capital Territory and Nigeria as a whole.
The briefing comes as the administration continues to roll out programmes aimed at youth empowerment, education and sustainable development across the council’s communities.
