An aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Ekiti North, Davison, has accused powerful figures within the party of manipulating the primary process and imposing preferred candidates.
The governorship hopeful, who reacted after the exercise, alleged that the process was compromised and failed to reflect the will of party members at the grassroots level.
Davison claimed that party “powerbrokers” interfered with the conduct of the primary, insisting that the exercise lacked transparency and fairness.
The controversy comes amid growing tensions within the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several aspirants across different states accusing party leaders of imposition and irregularities during primaries.
Meanwhile, comments attributed to former Ogun State Governor, Olusegun Osoba at a separate event also drew attention after he relayed remarks allegedly made by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu concerning Nigeria’s economy and the value of the naira.
According to Osoba, Tinubu pointed to the narrowing gap between the official and parallel foreign exchange markets as evidence that government policies were beginning to stabilise the economy.
“You all can see now that the security situation is gradually moving into the South-West zone. So he says the first major thing he is facing now is the economy, and you all can see that the difference between the parallel market and official market exchange rate is virtually zero now,” Osoba reportedly said.
He further quoted the President as saying the naira, which some critics predicted could fall to ₦2,000 per dollar, had instead strengthened to around ₦1,380 to the dollar.
Osoba also claimed Tinubu expressed concerns that a sharply appreciating naira could create complications for traders and importers who had previously purchased foreign exchange at much higher rates.
“In fact, he says he is not going to allow the naira to get too strong. He does not want to create confusion for those who have bought money at about ₦1,500 and other goods,” Osoba stated.
The event was attended by several notable Nigerians, including Wole Soyinka, Olisa Agbakoba, and Rasheed Ladoja.
