Nigerian music star Davido has been appointed as head of youth mobilisation for the Osun State Campaign Council ahead of the August 2026 governorship election.
The singer, whose real name is David Adeleke, confirmed the development in a statement shared on social media, announcing his involvement in the re-election campaign of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
“I have been appointed by the Governor of Osun State… as head youth mobilization of campaign council,” Davido wrote, expressing optimism about the campaign and the governor’s re-election bid.
The appointment places the popular artiste at the forefront of grassroots mobilisation, particularly among young voters, who are expected to play a critical role in determining the outcome of the election.
Davido has previously been active in political advocacy in Osun State, but this marks a more formal and strategic role within the campaign structure as the state prepares for a potentially competitive contest.
Meanwhile, the development comes amid rising concerns over the credibility of the electoral process. The Osun State House of Assembly has raised alarm over recent actions by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), particularly the redeployment of Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mutiu Agboke, to Ondo State months before the election.
Lawmakers described the move as suspicious, warning that it could be part of a broader attempt to influence the outcome of the polls. They also alleged plans for further redeployments of key electoral officials across the state.
Despite the concerns, the Assembly maintained that the will of the people would prevail, insisting that voters in Osun State remain vigilant and determined to ensure a free and fair election.
