Former presidential candidate and human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has cautioned that anyone defending mass violence on the basis of U.S. President Donald J. Trump’s worldview should be prepared to face strong resistance.

Sowore made the remarks on Sunday while reacting to the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, which has intensified following confirmation from Iranian state media that Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in coordinated U.S.–Israeli strikes.

In a statement, Sowore condemned attempts to rationalise civilian casualties or large-scale violence under the guise of geopolitical dominance.

“Anyone justifying mass murder simply because Donald J. Trump believes the world is his playground should brace themselves for a world of resistance,” he said.

The activist, known for his criticism of authoritarian governance and global power politics, argued that unchecked authority historically provokes organised opposition.

“Power without accountability always meets opposition. History has shown that when leaders overreach, people organise, mobilise, and push back,” Sowore added.

His comments come amid heightened international scrutiny of Washington’s role in the Middle East crisis. President Trump has publicly backed Israel’s military operations against Iran and described Khamenei’s killing as a turning point for Iran’s political future.

Sowore framed the unfolding developments within a broader historical context, maintaining that concentrations of power rarely go unchallenged when accountability mechanisms are absent.

Following confirmation of Khamenei’s death, Iranian authorities declared a 40-day national mourning period. The announcement marked a dramatic shift from earlier denials by semi-official news agencies, which had initially insisted the Supreme Leader remained in command.

As tensions continue to rise across the region, global leaders and observers are closely monitoring the political transition in Tehran and the broader implications for regional stability.
