Human rights activist and former presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has criticised Nigeria’s mainstream political figures, insisting that the African Action Congress (AAC) remains the country’s only genuine opposition.
Speaking in an interview shared on X (formerly Twitter), Sowore took aim at Peter Obi and Bala Mohammed, rejecting claims that they represent alternative political voices.
He argued that members of major parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC), operate within the same political system and cannot be considered true opposition.
Reacting to reports of Bala Mohammed’s possible political moves, Sowore said the Bauchi governor had always been part of the establishment, referencing his past role as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
Sowore also questioned Peter Obi’s credibility as an opposition figure, arguing that his political alliances contradict earlier criticisms of Nigeria’s political structure.
According to him, real opposition should come from movements outside the established political class, stressing that the AAC has remained consistent in its stance since its formation.
He concluded that Nigeria’s major political parties share similar interests and political culture, maintaining that only independent movements like the AAC are genuinely challenging the system.
