A civic organisation, Renewal Group, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to set up a public inquiry into allegations of corruption and abuse of office against the Lagos State Police Command Commissioner, Moshood Jimoh.
In a letter dated March 16, 2026, the group accused the police chief of involvement in alleged land grabbing, unlawful demolition of property, and disregard for court orders across Lagos State.
The group claimed that armed officers, sometimes accompanied by thugs, were used to take over private lands, while property owners who resisted were allegedly arrested and arraigned before mobile courts, with some remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
It also alleged that court orders obtained by affected individuals were ignored, making it difficult for victims to seek legal redress.
According to the petition, previous complaints sent to authorities including the police hierarchy had not received attention, raising concerns about accountability.
The group further cited cases of alleged abuse involving civilians, including an incident where a motorist was reportedly detained following a dispute involving a traffic violation.
The organisation warned that the situation could escalate into a broader security crisis if left unchecked and urged the president to order an independent investigation into the claims.
It added that a public inquiry would help uncover the truth and restore confidence in law enforcement while protecting citizens’ rights.
