Tension is rising in Abaji Area Council, FCT, as communities accuse officials of coercion and diversion of funds meant for critical healthcare projects under the Community and Social Development Project (CSDP).
The affected communities Mawogi, Dogo Ruwa, Gigbe, and Tugan Usman were approved for the construction, renovation, and equipping of medical facilities. However, residents say the projects have stalled despite funds being disbursed.
Community sources allege that after opening a project account as required by CSDP guidelines, they were threatened and compelled to transfer the money to a private company account allegedly provided by the Head of Health (HOD), Abaji Area Council, Dr. Mansur Ashafa.
The funds ₦11,950,061 were reportedly transferred from the community account to Shamgaj Integrated Service Limited, Access Bank, Account No: 1884066164.
CSDP rules stipulate that projects are community-driven, with government officials limited to supervision and advisory roles, not direct handling of funds.
Meanwhile, residents say the absence of functional health centres has forced pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children to trek for over an hour to access vaccine zero, antenatal, and postnatal care, leaving many without timely medical attention.
Calls are mounting for urgent investigation by EFCC, ICPC, and the FCTA, as communities demand accountability and immediate delivery of the promised health facilities.
