A political storm is brewing in Gwagwalada Area Council following a viral Facebook post alleging a conspiracy to arrest and detain the Speaker of the Council, RT Hon Mohammed G. Ibrahim, popularly known as Mohammed Ibwa.
The allegation was made by Ayowumi Fasoyo Odunayo, who claimed that certain actors within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gwagwalada are working with “bad actors” to arrest the Speaker and detain him in an undisclosed location until after the elections.
“We are aware and we know the plans already, but Insha Allah they have failed… I want the entire Gwagwalada to have this first-class information and do with it how it pleases,” the Facebook post read.
Sources within the local political space note that the publication came shortly after Mohammed Ibwa publicly declared support for Kasim and defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Until recently, Mohammed Ibwa was regarded as a strong APC loyalist and had contested for the party’s ticket but was unsuccessful. His defection has since generated intense debate, with some party insiders alleging that the APC leadership feared his grassroots influence, particularly among youths, whom he is said to command in large numbers across Gwagwalada.
Several youth leaders interviewed by Chronicles Reporters described Ibwa as “a mobilizer with uncommon reach”, insisting that his political strength extends beyond party lines.
