Troops of the Nigerian Army, working alongside the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun, and local vigilantes, have killed two suspected terrorists during a joint security operation in Ondo State.

The operation was carried out on February 14, 2026, by soldiers of the 32 Artillery Brigade attached to the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Auga. The exercise took place along the Akunu–Auga road following intelligence reports about the movement of suspected criminal elements in the area.

In a statement issued by Major Irabor Njoka, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, troops acted on credible human intelligence and swiftly moved to intercept the suspects. The encounter reportedly led to a gun battle.

According to the Army, two of the suspects were neutralised during the exchange, while others escaped with suspected gunshot injuries.

Security authorities said the mission was a coordinated effort involving military personnel, Amotekun operatives, and community vigilantes.

Items recovered from the scene include an AK-47 rifle with two magazines loaded with 61 rounds of ammunition, three mobile phones, a jackknife, a torchlight, suspected illicit substances, charms, and ₦39,000 in cash.

Military officials noted that the outcome of the operation reflects ongoing efforts to restrict the activities of criminal groups and safeguard lives and property in the state. The Brigade added that clearance operations and patrols along identified hotspots would be intensified in collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders.

Residents were encouraged to continue providing timely and reliable information to security agencies, as public cooperation remains vital in tackling insecurity across Ondo State.
