Justice Yeliam Bogoro of the Federal High Court in Lagos has fixed May 8, 2026, to rule on a no-case submission filed by former Niger State governor, Muazu Babangida Aliyu, and his co-defendant, Umar Muhammed Nasko.
The duo is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on an eight-count charge bordering on conspiracy, money laundering, and alleged conversion of ecological funds amounting to ₦1,509,791,200.
During Thursday’s proceedings, counsel adopted their final written addresses on the no-case submissions. The prosecution, led by Faruk Abdallah, informed the court that the defendants were originally arraigned on April 28, 2017.
According to the EFCC, 11 witnesses were called and several exhibits tendered in an effort to establish its case. Following the close of the prosecution’s case, both defendants opted to file separate no-case submissions, arguing that the evidence presented was insufficient to warrant them entering a defence.
Aliyu filed his written no-case submission on December 18, 2025, while Nasko filed his on November 23, 2025. The prosecution responded on February 5, 2026, urging the court to dismiss the applications.
Justice Bogoro subsequently adjourned the matter to May 8, 2026, for ruling on whether the defendants have a case to answer or will be discharged.
