The Osun State chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has condemned the recently passed Osun State House of Assembly budget, saying it “reflects a total disregard for citizens’ welfare” and fails to address the pressing needs of ordinary residents.
The party’s statement came on January 31, 2026, after the state legislature approved the 2026 budget estimates.In a press release, AAC Osun described the budget as “a clear indication that the welfare of the people is not a priority,” arguing that it allocates disproportionate resources to recurrent expenditures at the expense of social services. The statement said the budget does not prioritise critical sectors such as healthcare, education and job creation that directly impact the daily lives of residents.
The party’s state publicity secretary, Adeyeye Omoyele, said, “We are disappointed that the Osun State Assembly has passed a budget that does not reflect the yearnings and aspirations of our people.” Omoyele added that the document appears to favour political officeholders rather than citizens struggling with rising living costs and limited economic opportunities.
AAC Osun also urged the executive arm of government and lawmakers to revisit the budget and ensure that future estimates are more inclusive and responsive to public needs. Omoyele warned that “a budget that ignores the welfare of the majority will only deepen hardship and widen inequality.”
