Some members of the African Action Congress (AAC) in Delta State have announced their collective resignation from the party, protesting what they described as an irregular and illegitimate process that produced Maxwell Ogor as Chairman of the partyâs Delta State chapter.
In a resignation letter addressed to the partyâs National Chairman, National Secretary and members of the National Working Committee (NWC), the aggrieved members said they were withdrawing their membership at all levels with immediate effect.
They explained that their decision followed what they called a âcareful and objective assessmentâ of the conduct of both the former and current NWC in relation to the congress through which Ogor emerged as state chairman.
According to the letter, the congress was flawed and lacked legitimacy, citing the alleged exclusion of known party members, former stakeholders and established party structures in Delta State.
âThe said congress was irregular and lacked legitimacy, particularly due to the exclusion of known party members, former stakeholders, and established structures of the party within Delta State,â the members said.
They added that the handling of the matter had seriously eroded their confidence in the national leadershipâs ability to manage internal party affairs with transparency, integrity and efficiency, especially for a party that presents itself as revolutionary and principled.
The members further stated that they found it unacceptable to remain in a party that, in their view, appeared to condone or reward individuals with records of alleged anti-party activities.
They also accused the party leadership of prolonged silence, omissions and statements that, according to them, revealed a divergence in principles and judgment, making their continued membership untenable.
âAfter due consultations and collective deliberation, we have resolved to withdraw our membership from the African Action Congress and disengage from all party activities at all levels, effective immediately,â the letter stated.
Those who resigned include Comrade Chidike Edmund Ojuyenum, Comrade Ochuko Famili Etu, Comrade Efafe Godbless Okemute, Comrade Iwalola Temitope, Comrade Elvis Okhe, Comrade Oxley Kwene, Comrade Chukwunedum Omessah, Comrade Ubi Nelson Ufezime, Comrade Ejam Ifeanyi John, Comrade Rhoda Esiosa, Comrade Sammy Lamptey, Comrade Emma Uruemuesiri, Comrade Destiny Oghene, Comrade Erica Ukeredi, Comrade Esther Ogheneovo Etu, Comrade Felicia Ogbotor and Comrade Daniel Efemena.
They concluded by acknowledging their past participation in the party and wishing the AAC and its leadership well in their future activities, urging the party to accept the letter as their formal notice of resignation.
