The Nigerian government is set to arraign Chief Mike Ozekhome, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, over alleged fraud involving a property in London. The arraignment is scheduled for Monday, January 26, 2026, at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Maitama, Abuja.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission is prosecuting the matter, with the Federal Republic of Nigeria listed as the plaintiff. The prosecution will be led by Dr. Osuobeni Ekoi Akponimisingha, head of the ICPC’s High Profile Prosecution Department.
The three-count charge alleges that he received a London property at 79 Randall Avenue, knowing the transaction was fraudulent. He is also accused of forging a Nigerian passport in the name of Shani Tali and using the forged document to support a claim of ownership. The case follows a UK First-Tier Tribunal ruling that questioned the legitimacy of documents linked to the property. The charge sheet was filed on January 16, 2026.
The court has warned that any request for adjournment must be supported by valid reasons and evidence. At 68, Ozekhome is a prominent legal figure in Nigeria, and this case will likely attract intense public interest. The outcome could have wider implications for how allegations of cross-border fraud are handled and the confidence Nigerians place in the justice system.
