Supporters of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), gathered at his residence in Kano on Sunday in a public display of solidarity amid recent political shifts in the state.
The visit followed the defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, from the NNPP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Kwankwaso disclosed via a post on his official Facebook page that the supporters came from Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
Expressing gratitude, the former Kano governor described the visit as timely, noting that the supporters stood by him despite what he called a challenging period. He praised their commitment to the ideals of the Kwankwasiyya movement, stressing that their support was driven by collective interest rather than personal benefit.
Governor Yusuf’s exit from the NNPP has continued to stir reactions within the party. Kwankwaso, who openly criticized the move, described the day of the governor’s defection as “World Betrayal Day,” underscoring the depth of his disappointment.
