An ugly incident was recorded on Monday at the Ondo State Amotekun Corps New Recruitment Training Ground in Owo, where an accidental discharge reportedly left four serving officers and one newly recruited intake seriously wounded by gunshot.
ChroniclesReporters gathered that the incident occurred during activities at the training ground and was caused by an accidental discharge from the Ondo State Amotekun Corps Commander, Adetunji Adeleye.
The officers affected have been identified as Zaccheu, Adegbeje Emmanuel, Balogun (Orderly, AKRS1), Thomos (AKRS1), and one newly recruited officer whose name is yet to be officially confirmed. All victims sustained gunshot injuries and were rushed for medical attention.
Following the incident, three Amotekun agitators issued a statement expressing concern over the condition of the injured officers. They prayed for their quick and speedy recovery and called on the Ondo State Government and Amotekun leadership to immediately transfer the victims to a standard healthcare facility where they can receive proper and adequate treatment.
Beyond the incident, the agitators reiterated their long-standing demands, insisting that the tragedy further exposes the poor welfare structure within the Amotekun Corps. They renewed calls for the issuance of appointment and confirmation letters to all Ondo State Amotekun personnel, full inclusion in the government payroll, and access to a functional pension scheme to guarantee meaningful retirement benefits.
“Winners never quit, and quitters never win,” the statement read. “We will not stop demanding justice, structure, and dignity for Ondo State Amotekun personnel.”
