In the aftermath of a deadly attack that left several residents of Gurfata community dead and others injured, Hon. Sunday Shagi Jonah has issued a strong condemnation of the violence, describing the killings as “barbaric, inhumane, and unacceptable.”

The attack, allegedly carried out by suspected Fulani herders, has thrown the once peaceful Gurfata community into mourning. The lawmaker expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives, extending condolences to the bereaved families and calling for prayers for those injured and traumatized.

“No community should be subjected to such brutal acts or live in fear of violence,” Hon. Shagi said in an official statement. “We cannot claim to be a nation of peace and unity when our rural communities are being torn apart by senseless bloodshed.”

He called on security agencies to swing into immediate action, urging a comprehensive investigation into the attack and the swift apprehension of those responsible. Hon. Shagi also demanded an increased security presence in Gurfata and surrounding areas to forestall further violence.

Beyond security intervention, he appealed to government authorities at all levels to provide urgent relief materials and long-term resettlement plans for the affected residents, many of whom have been displaced or are now living in fear.

“Government must not look away while our people are being hunted in their ancestral lands,” he said. “I will continue to raise my voice until justice is done and lasting peace is restored.”

The attack in Gurfata adds to the growing list of violent incidents targeting rural communities across the Federal Capital Territory and beyond, raising serious questions about national security and the protection of indigenous lives.
