The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has issued a strong warning to pro-Biafra agitators, affirming that any efforts to disturb the peace and security in the state will be dealt with swiftly. This comes in response to a call for a two-day sit-at-home protest announced by a group advocating for Biafra.
The group had planned the protest across five southeastern states, along with parts of Delta, Rivers, and Kogi, for Monday, October 21, and Tuesday, October 22, 2024. However, on Sunday, the Police Commissioner urged residents to disregard a viral video from an unidentified source urging them to participate in the sit-at-home protest.
In a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, CP Uzuegbu described the contents of the viral video as “baseless and unwarranted,” calling it a deliberate attempt to incite fear and unrest in the region. He emphasized that Enugu State has long moved past such unlawful sit-at-home orders, which he said are often aimed at destabilizing the social and economic well-being of citizens under the pretense of secessionist movements.
Uzuegbu further encouraged residents to continue their normal activities without fear, assuring them that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are fully prepared to maintain law and order across the state.
He added, “Any individual or group attempting to disrupt public peace will face severe consequences.” The commissioner also urged parents and guardians to warn their children and wards against being used in activities that threaten the peace and security of the state, stressing that legal consequences for such actions would be severe.
