The Nigeria Police Force has issued an urgent alert to its units in Kwara and Kogi States due to intelligence reports suggesting a potential terrorist attack in the Omu-Aran region of Kwara State, which may also affect the Yagba West area of Kogi State.
In response to this alarming information, police commanders and Deputy Police Officers in Osun State have directed law enforcement agencies in the neighboring areas to heighten their vigilance. Officers have been instructed to increase patrols and implement preventive measures to thwart any kidnapping attempts in their jurisdictions.
A police communication obtained by SaharaReporters on Monday indicated that all commands are on high alert for the next 72 hours. This directive was issued by the Directorate of Operations from the Osun State Police Command.
The message stated: “TERRORISTS ATTACK X INTREP MINE INDICATES THAT TERRORISTS ARE ASSEMBLING TO LAUNCH ATTACK IN THE NEXT 72HRS ON OMU-ARAN KWARA STATE TO YAGBA WEST AXIS OF WESTERN KOGI STATE X ALL AREA COMMANDERS/DPOS IN OSUN STATE ARE TO BE AT RED ALERT X ESPECIALLY THOSE SHARING BOUNDARIES WITH KWARA AND KOGI STATES X YOU ALL ARE FURTHER DIRECTED TO PUT YOUR PATROL TEAMS AT ALERT AND ENSURE NO KIDNAPPING TAKES PLACE IN YOUR RESPECTIVE AOR X TREAT AS VERY IMPORTANT PLEASE X.”
Kwara South has recently seen a surge in kidnapping incidents. Over the past few weeks, multiple kidnappings have been reported.
For instance, last Thursday, gunmen attacked the Oreke-Okegbo community in the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, resulting in one person being shot and another killed during an attempted abduction.
Earlier this month, gunmen, believed to be Fulani herdsmen, killed Chief Lukman Balogun, a well-known vigilante commander referred to as “Jagun,” in the Igbaja community of Ifelodun Local Government Area. This confrontation occurred on Monday evening as he was on a mission to rescue three individuals who had been taken by the herdsmen.
Reports indicate that Jagun was pursuing the kidnappers who had previously abducted a notable resident of Igbaja when he was killed along the Ogele-Yaaru road. At the time of the incident, the identities of the three kidnap victims remained undisclosed as they were still held by their captors.
