The Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, has intensified its efforts to suppress the #EndBadGovernance protests, which recently took place across the country. On Tuesday, the government announced that it had traced a total of N83 billion in funds, both in cryptocurrency and fiat money, that were allegedly funneled into supporting these protests.

According to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, during the inaugural meeting of the Council of State held at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja, the government identified $50 million in cryptocurrency linked to donations for the protests. Out of this amount, $38 million was successfully blocked across four cryptocurrency wallets. Additionally, it was revealed that various political actors contributed N4 billion from locations including Abuja, Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina to finance the protests.

The #EndBadGovernance protests, which took place from August 1 to 10, were met with severe government crackdowns. Numerous reports highlighted the brutality faced by unarmed protesters, including allegations of killings that have yet to be addressed by the government. The protests were a response to widespread grievances, including demands for an end to poor governance and the reduction of rising inflation rates, particularly in food and general goods.
