The Katsina State Police Command successfully thwarted two separate kidnap attempts and rescued 20 passengers in Jibia and Faskari Local Government Areas. This was disclosed in a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abubakar Aliyu, on Sunday.
First Incident: Jibia Local Government Area
The first incident occurred on Saturday around 7 p.m. at Kwanar Makera along the Katsina-Magamar Jibia road. A group of armed bandits, wielding AK-47 rifles, opened fire on a moving vehicle, attempting to abduct its occupants.
Acting on a tip-off, operatives from the Jibia Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly responded, engaging the assailants in a gun battle. The police’s decisive action forced the bandits to abandon their mission and flee the scene with gunshot wounds. All 10 occupants of the vehicle were rescued unharmed.
Second Incident: Faskari Local Government Area
Later that evening, around 10:30 p.m., suspected bandits ambushed another vehicle carrying 10 passengers at Marabar Bangori along the Funtua-Gusau road in Faskari Local Government Area.
Alerted to the situation, police operatives mobilized to the scene and confronted the attackers in a fierce gunfight. Overpowered by the superior firepower of the security personnel, the bandits abandoned their plans and fled. All 10 passengers were successfully rescued, though one sustained serious injuries inflicted by the attackers. The injured victim was rushed to a hospital and is currently responding to treatment.
