Several passengers were injured early Saturday morning following a multiple-vehicle accident at the Ijora area of Lagos.
The crash involved an unregistered articulated truck and several other vehicles, including a white Ford bus with registration number FKJ-476YG, a fully loaded 18-seater Nissan commercial transit bus (FST-805YH), a gold Toyota Corolla saloon car (RBC-702BQ), a grey seven-seater Grand Caravan space bus (LSD-954CY), and a fully loaded 14-seater Volkswagen transporter commercial bus (EPE-381YBD).
Although no fatalities were reported, some drivers and victims reportedly fled the scene before emergency services arrived.
Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), confirmed the incident. Preliminary findings revealed that the articulated truck, carrying two 20-foot containers, experienced brake failure while descending the bridge. This caused the truck to collide with six vehicles.
“Thankfully, there were no fatalities. The driver of the fully loaded Ford bus and five others sustained minor injuries but had already left the scene before emergency responders arrived. Other passengers escaped without harm,” Oke-Osanyintolu explained.
LASEMA took charge of the recovery operation and activated safety measures at the accident site to prevent further incidents. The agency worked in collaboration with other stakeholders to ensure a smooth resolution of the situation.
