The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the tragic death of 12 individuals, including a child, in a road accident along the Baimari-Geidam route in Yobe State. The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Livinus Yilzoom, disclosed the details of the incident to journalists on Wednesday.

According to Yilzoom, the fatal accident occurred around 10 p.m. on Tuesday at Kilometer 20, near Chelluri village. It involved a stationary Howo truck with registration number MAG831ZR, belonging to Dan Nene Construction Company, and a Sharan minibus with registration number BAU124YF.

The commander revealed that the minibus crashed into the stationary truck and subsequently caught fire, killing all 12 occupants. The victims’ remains were reportedly burned beyond recognition, making identification challenging.

Preliminary investigations by the FRSC suggested that road obstruction, excessive speeding, and overloading were significant factors contributing to the tragic incident. Yilzoom also highlighted the risks associated with night travel, especially during the harmattan season, when visibility is often compromised.

He urged motorists to adhere strictly to road safety rules and avoid unnecessary risks to prevent such devastating accidents. In his statement, Yilzoom extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and called for vigilance and caution among road users.
