A serious collision on the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge in Lagos State has resulted in the deaths of three young men, with several others injured. The accident occurred around 1 AM on Sunday, September 22, according to reports from social media.
An eyewitness shared on X, “An 18-year-old driver caused the death of three of his friends in this tragic accident. The police have detained the two survivors.” The post highlighted that the driver, who lacked a valid license, was responsible for the crash that involved two vehicles.
At the time of the accident, approximately eight people were in the two cars. Unfortunately, two individuals died at the scene, while a third succumbed to injuries shortly after being extracted from the wreckage.
Lagos State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the events on X. He stated that police arrived promptly, transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. Sadly, three individuals were declared dead, and their bodies were taken to the Yaba mortuary. The driver, who was found to be at fault, also received medical attention before being released into the care of his family.
Authorities have announced that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
