The Gombe State Police Command has apprehended 21-year-old Mubarak Haladu for the kidnapping and murder of his brother’s seven-year-old son, Haruna Bello, in the Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area.

According to the police spokesperson, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, Haladu allegedly abducted Haruna and demanded a ransom of N1.5 million from the boy’s father. In a statement released on Friday, October 25, 2024, Abdullahi detailed the sequence of events leading to the arrest of the suspect.

On October 10, 2024, Bello Haladu, the victim’s father, reported to the Dadin Kowa Police Station that his younger brother, Mubarak, had called him to say he had kidnapped Haruna and was demanding the hefty ransom. Following the report, the case was transferred to the Anti-kidnapping section of the police for further investigation.

On October 17, 2024, police operatives arrested Mubarak. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and also admitted to breaking into three shops in different locations, stealing around thirty mobile phones. He used one of the stolen SIM cards to call his brother and demand the ransom.

Tragically, on October 18, the remains of young Haruna were discovered in a decomposing state within an uncompleted building in Dadin Kowa village. Authorities are preparing to bring charges against Mubarak, and he is expected to face prosecution soon.
